The Worldview of a Millennial Eccentric

This was the perspective of Joseph Campbell, and I completely agree. So, God just spent the last seven days creating all of existence. So, when God creates Adam and Eve, we have the One into the two. This is found all over the place in creation stories for good reason , but it holds a very special philosophical and spiritual significance: the idea that the Unity somehow manifested itself and broke into a duality male and female, at least in this case.

Sure, God created man in his own image, but humans are creations, separate from the creator. Ok, so, the One becomes the two, which eventually becomes the many. Specifically in the Garden of Eden story, this would be he desendents of Adam and Eve, but it has many parallels with other sources.

So, many people interpret this to mean that Adam and Eve where in a state of purity and even innocence. No wonder some babies cry at the game! Anyway, over time, you start chewing on your thumb and at other times your blanket, for example, and you notice you can feel one but not the other. As we can see, it turns out so far that the Garden of Eden has some interesting parallels. And not only with other traditions, but with how the human mind develops from birth.

Very interesting, indeed, but now we start getting into the really good stuff. Venturing farther, after Adam and Eve are told not to eat the fruit, our good pal Satan enters the picture in the form of a snake. Man, I love that guy. Always causing chaos and misery, misguiding lost souls into eternal damnation. Wait, what? Serpents are very ancient symbols used throughout the world to represent life, immortality, and rejuvenation. Ever hear of the Ouroboros, the serpent that perpetually eats its own tail?

For my next point, the literalist Christian concept of the soul is woefully inadequate. Brahman is Atman and Atman is Brahman. Unfortunately, religions tend to take one or more literal read: shallow surface meanings as the truth. The Atman is a perfect example of what the serpent represents. The Atman is the inner witness, your wisdom and conscience, your gut feeling, the deepest, truest You that is God.

Though the church and history chose to vilify Eve as the source of the Fall from grace and original sin, she was simply fulfilling a role of woman: birth. Ignorance literally is bliss especially if we talk about ignorance in Buddhist terms, which ties directly into this discussion; make sure to out check out my other article. Check it out. At the world level, this is where we find people who identify as citizens of the world such as myself , seeing themselves as members of this crazy little group called humanity rather than primarily identifying as the member of a particular country.

The chain is inclusive.

Genesis 2:8-14 - The First Garden and Its Purpose: Eden, Man’s Ideal Place or Home

You can still be part of your family, part of your peer group, and be American or whatever other nationality, but ultimately you identify with humanity itself. Once we go beyond that, we eventually progress toward identifying with all life and then all of existence. Notice that the One which became the two which became the many seems to be going back to the One.

What does this have to do with the Garden? A lot. So, God placed a cherub with a fiery sword as a guardian to stop anyone from entering the Garden.

Garden of Eden Apothecary

A threshold guardian. Man needed a residence, a home, a place to live. This passage of Scripture describes the place where man had his beginnings upon earth, the place where man was to live.

The place is called The Garden of Eden , the most beautiful and bountiful paradise man could ever imagine. Paul said to the Romans "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—" Romans There is nothing you can do to save yourself "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

1. Eden was good, but not yet fully glorious.

It is God and God alone who saves us "not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. We have no excuse for our sin "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

John says "If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. Isaiah writes that "All of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. The Psalmist says "A little that a righteous man has Is better than the riches of many wicked. John wrote " Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Upload sermon. Genesis — Sermon Tone Analysis.

A real place, a garden planted by God v. However, the reality of the Garden has been denied by some persons. This thought thinks that the Garden is the dream of the ideal earth and environment toward which man should work. It says that the Garden was a real, physical place, created by God Himself. How can we say this so confidently? Because of three clear facts. When Moses wrote this, he was leading Israel in the wilderness wanderings throughout the great Arabian Desert. East of the Arabian Desert would point toward the Arab nations of the Middle East, specifically toward the great fertile plains of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
